Bedside Notary Service at UC Davis Health
UC Davis Medical Center is Northern California’s only Level 1 Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center — and one of the region’s most complex care environments for notary work. Patients may be recovering from trauma, awaiting transplants, receiving oncology treatment, or in intensive care, making both access logistics and capacity assessment more involved than a routine signing.
Sacramento Notary Co regularly visits UC Davis Health facilities. We coordinate with the nursing station before approaching any patient room, comply fully with UC Davis Health visitor protocols, and apply California’s notarial capacity standard with particular care in acute-care settings. If a signing cannot proceed, we explain why and outline what alternatives exist.
Why UC Davis Signings Require Extra Care
Trauma & Critical Care
Patients admitted through the trauma center may be on sedatives or pain management that affects cognitive clarity. We assess capacity in person — we never rely on a phone assurance from family that the patient is “ready.”
Transplant & Oncology
Long-term patients and those facing major procedures often have time-sensitive estate documents. We coordinate quickly and work efficiently around scheduled treatments and care rounds.
Visitor & Floor Protocols
UC Davis Health has specific check-in procedures by unit. We sign in at the main visitor desk, notify the nursing station before entering, and adhere to any unit-specific PPE or access requirements.
Documents We Notarize at UC Davis
Durable Power of Attorney
Financial or general POA delegating authority to a trusted agent — critical before a major procedure or when a patient’s condition is declining.
Advance Healthcare Directive
California AHCD covering DNR preferences, medical decision-making, and healthcare agent appointment. UC Davis staff often request this document be in place before significant procedures.
Wills & Trust Documents
Self-proving will affidavits, codicils, living-trust amendments. We notarize only — we do not draft. Your estate attorney should prepare the documents in advance.
HIPAA Authorization
Grants family or agents access to medical records and communication with UC Davis Health providers.
Discharge & Transfer
Admission forms for SNF, rehab, or home-hospice transfer. Often needed quickly when discharge timing shifts unexpectedly.
Affidavits & Other
Any sworn statement, acknowledgment, or jurat requiring a California notary seal during a UC Davis stay.

“My husband needed a power of attorney signed urgently while in the ICU at UC Davis. The notary arrived within two hours, handled the entire process with care for both the nursing staff and my husband’s condition, and made something incredibly stressful feel manageable.”
Frequently Asked Questions
Does UC Davis allow outside notaries?
Yes. UC Davis Health follows standard visitor policy by unit. ICU and transplant units may require extra clearance. We always call the nursing station before arrival to confirm access and timing.
How fast can you arrive?
Standard appointments are available same-day. Urgent requests receive a 2–4 hour response when schedule permits. Call (916) 856-7000 for immediate triage.
What if the patient is on sedatives?
Sedation doesn’t automatically disqualify a signing, but we assess capacity carefully in person. If the patient cannot clearly confirm awareness of what they’re signing, we won’t proceed — and we’ll explain alternatives.
What if the patient has no ID?
California’s credible-witness provision allows a disinterested person who personally knows the patient to vouch for their identity under oath. We’ll explain what’s required before we arrive.
