California law requires notaries public to maintain a sequential journal of all notarial acts performed, per Government Code §8206. This journal entry records:

Date and time of notarization, type of notarial act, document type, signer’s name and signature, type of ID presented, and notary fee charged — as required by California law
How It Is Protected
The notarial journal is maintained securely per California Secretary of State requirements. It is not shared with third parties except as required by law or court order. It is retained for the period required by Gov. Code §8206
Journal entries are required by California law and are separate from any business records we maintain. You have the right to request a copy of your own journal entry by contacting us in writing.
